What a great day to climb the Sleeping Bear Dunes or should I say DOOMS at Empire just west of Traverse City. This is not for the feint of heart! There should be a caution sign warning people who try this hike — bring water, sunblock, a hat, good hiking shoes and be in shape! This is a 2 mile up and down sand dunes to get to Lake Michigan strenuous adventure. It is one of those events you can cross off your list of things to do. I am glad I did it and would do it again just for the exercise.
After this hike you should have an appetite and did I. Oreida has a new product that caught my eye the other day called ” Grillers” – flavored potatoe slices. These should be good with the Delmonico steak I picked up at MaxBauer meats on Union Street in Traverse City. They are known for 5 star beef. 5 star is the top 5% of beef cattle rated for marbling. This is what gives steak flavor and tenderness. As an after though I also threw on a Lobster tale — right now the U.S. has had a record year for lobster harvest. Might as well take advantage of low prices!
Lots of things to do in the Traverse City area, get out there for great shopping, restaurants, wine tasting, entertainment and great food for grilling!
